Artist Statement
I am a mixed media artist in love with the process of creating.
I delight in the experience of applying paint to canvas, constructing layers, and adding texture. My greatest inspiration comes from ancient wisdom and all that connects us to one another, to our collective history, and to that which lies beyond the physical world.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of materials. In recent years, I’ve developed a passion for playing with raw canvas, which has become the primary element in my paintings. I cut and prepare the material with strings, fringes, and frayed edges, creating layers that are sewn onto a stretched canvas background. Sometimes the cloth is added as a textural element beneath the painted surface.
Text of ancient prayers, mantras, and words of wisdom often find their way onto my canvases as the final piece in the completion of the work.
